SECURITY CAMERAS – EYES AND EARS OF CRIME PREVENTION

For many of us, the idea of closed circuit television (CCTV) conjures up images of grainy footage from dark alleys or a lone security officer staring at a sea of monitors.  Maybe we’ve watched too many movies – but that’s certainly an old-fashioned view and nowhere near where modern technology is at.

It’s true that in the past, many cctv security systems relied on manual operation with often a single operator monitoring all the screens.   Their job was a tough one that required a range of skills including concentration for extended periods of time, good observation skills, an ability to multitask and be intuitive about situations – and it was not possible for even the most skilled and focused operator to be aware of all the nuances. 

Modern cctv technology is very advanced and extremely impressive.   ‘Intelligent’ cctv is starting to emerge with new developments including small fixed cameras that are weather-proof, resistant to tampering and impact, direction controllable devices, cameras that detect motion, ones with automatic lens control and biometric technology where cameras are capable of face recognition.  Modern cameras can also clearly capture events in dimly lit areas and at night. 

Technology is being developed which can pick up if an object has been left in one place for a long time (could be a suspicious package) or where people are behaving in an inconsistent way - eg walking in the opposite direction to the flow of traffice etc.   

Other developments include Internet Protocol (IP) and wireless connectivity, which enables end-to-end interconnection, enhanced flexibility and improved visual information options.  It’s also easier to identify and prosecute criminals as data can now be stored for much longer than ever before with DVR technology (digital video recorders).  It’s also possible to control some cctv cameras from external locations which can obviate the need to have security personnel on site. 

One of the most exciting developments in closed circuit television technology has been cameras with audio technology.  Yes, cameras that see – and hear.  In a report from the BBC, a British company is reported to have developed software that picks up the intonation and pitch of voices and sounds, analyses these against stored data and then alerts the authorities if the situation is interpreted as possibly being threatening. 

It’s not a microphone in a security camera, but rather a complex software system that basically analyses audio ‘fingerprints’ and as soon as a sound is received that resembles a stored sample of a dangerous or threatening situation, the alarm is raised and relevant authorities notified.   CCTV cameras are more than eyes against crime, they could become eyes and ears.

But are we expecting CCTV to be the panacea for crime?  A report quoting an expert on CCTV security systems in Perth, Western Australia says that people have too high an expectation of the technology.  He says people expect cctv to be the detective – but there is actually no detection happening.  His view is that cctv is not intelligent technology yet and until it is, its effectiveness will remain in the hands of the operators and depend on their skills.

CCTV cameras are here to stay and it seems that ongoing technological developments are changing the way they work, changing the way they are used and may just change public perception and criminals’ habits.

Google Keyword Research-what a pain!

Google keyword research is more crucial than ever before, as Google adwords is now the world's #1 ad network.Google's content network covers over eighty percent of the globe.

But with such a potential customer reach, the competition is intense and growing by the minute. Google is making a killing.4 billion in 2007 from adwords income. I dont know how much of that money came from profitable ads, but my guess is more advertisers lost money than made money on the ads.

uncovering the right keywords: it's really only abou the keywords. The hits on your ads require that they are in tune with what people are searching for. Even worse than that is if you get clicks form people uninterested in what you have to offer.

It is a catch 22.

You want the clicks, but you dont want every click. That one click from the right person is what we are looking for. You must make sure the keywords you choose for your ads are finely tailored to your product and to the exact keywords that potential customers will most likely be searching for.

However, finding those keywords is a difficult and time-consuming task. Even worse it might not work out. The main keyword research tools are quite hard to use properly. Having spent all that time inresearch, now you will need to test them out. Wait! There are many stages to go. Having the keywords is great but now you need the right combination. It is like you took a math test and the correct answer was 756.

If your answer is not 100% right , you'd be 100% wrong. The examiner wont care if you are close. It's quite similar to paid per click. Searchers want more than just specific words. They are searching for specific words in a specific order & specific combination.

You need to be right on the money if you want to attract the right customers. Therefore you need to test your keywords combination to discover which ones work best for you.

I wont scare you off by telling you even more factors. That you need to find out what products your competition are promoting in combination with the landing pages and keywords & keyword combination that are making them a profit in order to make serious money. There is a solution to this issue.
