SECURITY CAMERAS – EYES AND EARS OF CRIME PREVENTION

For many of us, the idea of closed circuit television (CCTV) conjures up images of grainy footage from dark alleys or a lone security officer staring at a sea of monitors.  Maybe we’ve watched too many movies – but that’s certainly an old-fashioned view and nowhere near where modern technology is at.

Yes, in the old days, security camera surveillance relied on the operator monitoring the cameras.   And even though that was a job for extremely skilled operators with admirable powers of concentration, intuition and observation skills – it was impossible for every nuance to be picked up. 

Today, security camera technology is impressive to say the least.   Some of the features of the ‘intelligent’ new CCTV technology includes cameras that are capable of facial recognition (biometric technology), motion-detecting cameras, tiny devices that are resistant to weather, impact and even vandals, and devices with automatic lens control.  Modern cameras can also clearly capture events in dimly lit areas and at night. 

Technology is being developed which detects inconsistencies eg people behaving atypically from the rest of the crowd or an object left in one place for a long time.   

Improved end-to-end interconnectivity and improved visual information options are also possible with the new wireless and Internet protocol (IP) technology.  New digital video recorders (DVR)s are also capable of storing weeks of recorded data which is particularly useful for criminal identification and prosecution.  And with some cctv cameras now being operated remotely, there is less need for security personnel to be on site 24 hours a day. 

But perhaps one of the most exciting developments in cctv technology to emerge in recent times is audio capability.  Yes, cctv cameras that both see and hear what’s going on!.  According to the BBC, a British company has developed software that analyses the pitch, intonation and tone of people’s voices and noises,  interprets the situation according to stored data and then alerts the authorities if the situation is deemed to be threatening. 

It’s not a microphone in a security camera, but rather a complex software system that basically analyses audio ‘fingerprints’ and as soon as a sound is received that resembles a stored sample of a dangerous or threatening situation, the alarm is raised and relevant authorities notified.   Security cameras could become eyes AND ears in the crime-fighting and crime-prevention arena.

But are we placing too much emphasis on cctv security cameras when it comes to crime prevention and detection?  A report quoting a Perth security camera and cctv expert says that people do have an expectation of cctv beyond its capabilities.  He says people look at CCTV as a detection tool but there is actually no detection going on – and is of the view that the new technologies are still a long way from being intelligent.  For the foreseeable future he says, cctv will depend on the skill of the operators for its effectiveness.

CCTV cameras are here to stay and it seems that ongoing technological developments are changing the way they work, changing the way they are used and may just change public perception and criminals’ habits.

What Makes A Keyword Profitable?

How do you find potentially profitable keyword phrases for your web pages or AdWords campaigns

What factors should you consider when trying to determine the profitability of a particular phrase? Here are some suggestions:

- the frequency of which your keyword phrase is searched on

- the number of other web pages competing for your keyword

- how your keyword phrase is written

- how much Pay Per Click advertisers are willing to bid for your keyword

- how closely matched your product is to your phrase

- does your keyword phrase include a product or brand name

The 6 criteria above will go along way to determining how profitable a term will be for you.

So let me take you through each of the criteria in a bit more detail and explain further how each one can help you determine the potential of the keyword ...

1. Keyword Phrase Search Frequency

The higher the frequency that a keyword is searched on, the higher the probability that it will be profitable as it will drive you more traffic. If it's never typed into a search engine, it definitely won't bring you any traffic so you won't make any profit from it!

2. Competition For Your Keyword Phrase

Just because a search term is heavily searched on doesn't mean it's going to be profitable for YOU!

There really is no point whatsoever in optimising for a a high traffic keyword if there are already thousands of other pages already optimised for it ... because you will really find it hard to compete with them and your pages will simply just not rank very well in the search engines.

For a phrase to be profitable, it needs to attract "reasonable" volumes of searches whilst not having too many web pages to compete with!

3. How The Keyword Phrase Is Structured

This is a key point. When you discover a keyword phrase that gets a lot of searches and is structured in the form of a "question", you've potentially found a highly profitable keyword to exploit.

If you discover a highly searched on term that starts with "why", "how", "where" or "which", you've discovered an opportunity to provide the searcher with a "really targeted benefit".

4. How Much Google AdWords Advertisers Are Paying For The Keyword

If advertisers are prepared to pay a lot to display their advert against a keyword phrase, it must follow that its valuable and therefore should be profitable ... makes sense does it not? Life really does not need to be complicated ...

5. How Well Matched Your Product Is To Your Keyword Phrase

There's no point in identifying a potentially profitable term and then using it to sell a product that isn't closely matched to it.

6. Include A Product Name

Phrases that include a specific product name or brand name are likely to be high converting keywords if you're going to use them for affiliate marketing, because people already have been pre-sold on the product as they know of its existence before they search on it.

So there you have it, you now know what to look for when researching keywords that will potentially make you a lot of money using the 6 tips above.
